How Long Have Your Played Guitar:
12 years (self-taught)
What Other Instruments Do You Play:
Nothing yet! I want to learn
mandolin. Oh, and I played the viola in junior high
orchestra!
Who Are Your Influences:
Generally, either a mix radio
station, '80s station, or country station. However, when I
drop in a CD, here are my recent favorites: Phil Keaggy (my
all-time favorite), Steven Curtis Chapman, Burlap to
Cashmere, or a compilation CD containing everything from
Neil Diamond to Metallica! I'm as eclectic as they come!!
What Are You
Currently Listening To:
Combination of many styles...
oldies rock 'n roll, classic rock, modern country, '80s hard
rock, classical, blues, and modern Christian contemporary!
Major influencing artists/bands (to name a FEW): Beatles
(isn't everyone?), Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Paul Simon, Van
Halen, Garth Brooks, Michael W. Smith
The Best Thing About Music: I
believe it is an instrument of God that allows us to
communicate with Him and with each other. Like God, music
is always there for you, to vent in times of anger and hurt,
to comfort in times of need, and to experience joy in times
of happiness. |

What
Inspires You To Be A Musician:
I feel closest to God when I'm
creating or expressing music. Music is the one part of my
life that I feel that corruption and evil in this world
cannot touch.
Other
Bands/Projects You Have Been Involved With:
Not quite "band"
experience, but I led music for a Christian organization for
6 years while in college and grad school. I also worked for
a very short time with Lise Liddell and with Riverpointe
Church in Sugar Land.
Best
Musical Moment To Date:
Many personal moments, but the
best with Rebecca Torrellas would probably be a
toss-up between playing in Austin and playing for the first
time at the Engine Room in Houston.
Additional Comments:
When I'm not jammin'
with the band (or talking about guitars), I'm working my day
job at NASA as a biomedical engineer/scientist in the
exercise physiology lab finding ways to fight muscle and
bone loss astronauts experience in space by using
exercise. Basically, I'm a professional guinea pig for a
bunch of crazy experiments where I'm usually stuck with
needles and electrodes, forced to lift heavy loads, or
exercised to exhaustion while breathing through a bunch of
tubes strapped to my head! I spend most of my life sore.
However, if I'm not at NASA, then I'm probably running,
cycling, camping, hiking, rock climbing, skiing, or riding
my motorcycle somewhere! |
